  • System Design: Constant productivity index and Vogel IPR methods
  • Guidelines for system design, tips for reducing torque and rod loading, and increasing system efficiency.
  • Hands-on system design with RODSTAR (a modern wave equation predictive design system). 
  • A workshop will be offered where students will utilize Rodstar to design several “real life” well applications.
  • Dynamometer Analysis of Existing Systems: Surface versus downhole dynamometer cards; in-depth explanation of downhole dynamometer card shapes; how to understand downhole dynamometer card shapes. Hands-on system analysis (XDIAG /XROD), using dynamometer cards from actual wells. 
  • Matching measured dynamometer cards to cards generated from design software.
  • New Technology Developments: Expert systems and other new developments for optimizing rod pumping systems; the XDIAG computer program and its applications.
  • Understand the functionality of XSPOC, and how to apply this software to optimize the operation of rod pumped systems, optimizing the performance of pump-off controllers, and maximizing production. The student is given “practical” training with a demo XSPOC installation that uses real field data and has full capabilities. In addition, examples with field data will be presented that allow the student to diagnose and correct operational problems.
